it seems a little odd to talk about Intel "incubating" (given the history through Qlogic from PathScale). But maybe this is an opportunity for more perspective: how has OmniPath evolved? For that matter, I'd really love to understand the entire high-perf network landscape nowadays - IB, UE, whatever NV is doing...

Interesting to hear Cornelis positioning OmniPath against InfiniBand in the HPC space. The claim about 2.5x higher message rates is noteworthy, but I wonder how much of that advantage holds up when you factor in the ecosystem around IB - driver maturity, middleware support, etc. Back when I was working with a smaller research cluster we evaluated OmniPath but ended up going with IB mostly because of tooling and community knowledge. The multi-protocol CN6000 aproach seems smart though, especially with UltraEthernet compliance baked in. If they can actually deliver OmniPath-level performance through an Ethernet transport that could be a real differentiator for shops that want flexibility without sacrificing low latency.
