Hello everyone,
It’s time to talk about something important, as it’s becoming increasingly clear to us. Having a website with quality content and being able to deliver it effectively isn’t free. We’ve shunned as much advertising as possible to keep our content free of possible influence. The flipside of that is the site and content isn’t free: be it hosting, having software cause damage to hardware during testing, reimbursing writers, or purchasing items for content creation and reviews. This might be surprising to many of our readers but we are generally everyday people and we aren’t wealthy.
This brings us to the issue of financing. We’ve thought this through and discussed it thoroughly. We wanted to completely flesh this out and address as many concerns as possible before we brought this to our readers. We finally settled on Patreon, so we could have the site see some semblance of financial stability. This brought with it several issues that we felt were important, some of which we’ve seen crop up on other popular sites.
The ideas, terms, concerns and rewards:
1. We wanted there to be a reward for being a Patron of the site, so we’re offering Discord access and integration to our Patrons. The Discord is a place where our editors’, authors, and contributors hang out and talk. So you can talk with us and get an idea of what goes on behind the scenes and even see what might be coming to the site early.
2. No pay walls, all of our content will be available to everyone. Unless we are contractually obligated to keep something private, such as an NDA. We’ve seen too many sites or organizations shift to tying content to Patreon.
3. Patrons may get early access to some content, it will depend; anything time sensitive will go public for everyone at the same time. Patrons will get notification of any content release via Discord.
I wanted to keep this short but not leave out anything important. We want your help to grow and improve Chips and Cheese. You’ll see your funds used completely for the betterment of the site and it’s content.
